In 2020, the city acquired 142 trolley buses, and is to take delivery of 13 new trams in the first quarter of 2021.
According to Denis Minkin, Director of Gorelectrotrans, the municipal public electric land-based transport operator, St. Petersburg needs 600 new trans and some 300 new trolley buses.
The city’s public electric transport fleet is to be renovated within 5 years, Peterburgsky Dnevnik daily quotes Minkin as saying. He added that the renovation project has gained support from Governor Alexander Beglov.
At present, the municipal electric land-based public transport fleet includes over 700 trams, 100 of them are state of the art models made by Transport Systems.
Trams should have comfortable seats for passengers, a conditioning system in summer and heating in winter, low noise, large windows, and media systems, Minkin said.
He added that soon new trolley buses with an extended autonomous operation period are to be delivered. St. Petersburg ordered 35 such vehicles, half of them have been delivered. After the delivery is completed, there will be 160 such trolley buses in St. Petersburg.
Trolley buses with an extended autonomous operation period can run some 15 kilometers without using the contact network, they are deployed in new city districts with no contact network.
