Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga presented awards to St. Petersburg medics fighting COVID-19.

The decision to award medical workers was taken at the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. 31 person received the Patriarch’s commendation medals.
At the ceremony, the doctors emphasized that many more people working in the red zone deserve awards.
Metropolitan Varsonofy shared his own experience: ‘I also have been to the red zone as a patient and know what it is like. I saw medics work, and their efforts gave us inspiration to get well. Thank you so much for your dedication and high professionalism.’
The Patriarch’s commendation is one of the highest awards in the Russian Orthodox Church. This year, medics in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan were awarded with it.
