St. Petersburg’s Alexandrinsky Theatre to establish Moscow branch

The Main Department of State Expertise has approved of the design and estimate documentation for building a branch of St. Petersburg’s Alexandrinsky Theatre in Moscow.
The Moscow branch of the Alexandrinsky Theatre will be located at the crossing of Andropov Prospect and Nagatinskaya Street. Earlier, the construction of a building for the Chekhov Academic Theatre was started on the site, but the project was closed down.
In 2019, the object was transferred to the Alexandrinsky Theatre. The building was examined, and the project was updated to strengthen some of the structures and add ramps for people using wheelchairs.
The building of the Alexandrinsky Theatre branch in Moscow will have 9 floors including two underground, the overall territory will make 31.5 thousand square meters.
The main scene will have a hall for 650 people, and the smaller scene for 200 people. There will be a media studio, actors’ dressing rooms and recreation zones.
The construction is planned to take a little longer than five years and will be financed from the federal budget.
