Biotechnology companies, residents of the St. Petersburg Special Economic Zone, have developed a test system to assess the efficiency of COVID-19 vaccination.
According to the test system developers, tests previously used detected antibodies against N protein of the novel coronavirus only. However, the presence of these antibodies does not mean the person has developed immunity, it only confirms he or she has been infected.
The new test detects all classes of antibodies and can define whether the vaccinated person has or has not developed immunity, a spokesperson for Vice Governor Yevgeny Yelin told Saint-Petersburg TV Channel.
Importantly, the test takes just 55 minutes to make. The developers say their system has no analogues in Russia. The first batch they made consists of over 500 test systems. At present, the system is being registered.
