The research vessel “Akademik Fyodorov” came back from a three-month expedition in the Arctic. The vessel covered over 10 thousand kilometers.
The researchers conducted bathymetric studies in the Arctic Ocean supported by the Ministry of Defense, the Navy Staff, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the State Navigation and Hydrography Research Institute, the press office of the Navy reports.
The mission was accomplished in severe ice conditions with ice up to two meters thick.
The main task of the mission was to study the bottom relief and precipitation patterns. The data collected will be used to make a digital model of the Arctic Ocean.
