St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov and RF Minister of science and higher education Valery Falkov preparations for the International Congress of Mathematicians.
The International Congress of Mathematicians is to be held in St. Petersburg in July 2022. The Northern Capital of Russia competed for hosting the event with Paris.
Alexander Beglov promised that the city will do all it takes to hold the Congress at the highest level, a spokesperson for the city government told Saint-Petersburg TV Channel.
The Governor has signed an order to establish the organizing committee to prepare and hold the Congress. Members of the committee are researchers of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint Petersburg State University, the St. Petersburg branch of the Steklov Mathematical Institute, and representatives of the authorities.
The International Congress of Mathematicians is held every four years with over 4 thousand delegates from many countries participating.
At the Congress, the Fields Medal is awarded to recognize outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement.
