RF Premier Mikhail Mishustin is to award medics for their contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic in a ceremony to be held today in Moscow.
Four of them are doctors from St. Petersburg, Saint-Petersburg TV Channel has found out. The medics to be awarded work in Alexandrovskaya Hospital, the First Medical University, and the Almazov Center.
Also, two medics from St. Petersburg are to be awarded with the Pirogov Order posthumously. They both worked in the Dzhanelidze Research Institute of First Aid. Larisa Veselago was a doctor of the gynecology department and Valentina Shuzhina was a nurse of the X-ray and surgery diagnostics and therapy department.
Their colleagues remember them as kind people and experienced professionals who taught several generations of young doctors.
Sergey Platonov, head of the X-ray and surgery diagnostics and therapy department of the Dzhanelidze Institute, recalls: ‘I came to the institute in 2008. Valentina helped me develop as a person and as a doctor.’
Dmitry Kandyba, Deputy Director of the Dzhanelidze Institute, says: ‘It is a grave loss that affected all of us. We have lost our colleagues who were important for us.’
A memorial plaque to commemorate those who died fighting COVID-19 is to be put up in the Dzhanelidze Institute. At present, the clinic is operating in a usual mode.
