Two new plants that will manufacture radio equipment, medical devices and prostheses are to be built in St. Petersburg during the coming years. Almost 3 billion rubles (39.5 million dollars) is to be invested into the projects.
The facilities are to be built in the Novoorlovskaya Special Economic Zone in Primorsky District of St. Petersburg. Medical devices production is to start in 6 years, and radio equipment production in just two years.
Dmitry Kumanovsky, director of the analytical department with an investment company, comments: ‘Prosthetic technologies will help people with special needs become economically active, they will be able to work and pay taxes.’
‘The second company will make space-related equipment and will be able to use components unavailable for Russian state-owned companies.’
At present, 56 companies operate in the Special Economic Zone. The aggregate investment into the projects that have been announced and are being developed exceeds 85 billion rubles (1.12 billion dollars).
