The Institute marks the anniversary with an international conference.
The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute in St. Petersburg is going 100 today. The anniversary will be celebrated in a scientific way, with an international conference on modern Polar studies.
An excursion into the Russian-German Polar studies laboratory and to the ice model basin will be organized for the guests.
Researchers of the Institute have been working in the Arctic for a century, and since 1956 started in the Antarctic. Mapping the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago, the Lomonosov and Mendeleev Ridges is the merit of Russian researchers, as well as the sensational samples from Lake Vostok in the Antarctic.
