Used batteries will be made into forks, pencils and musical instruments.
An action to dispose of hazardous waste will be held in St. Petersburg. People who will bring used batteries will receive a symbolic reward, a green apple. The batteries thus collected will be used to make forks, pencils and musical instruments.
Volunteers will place 13 containers to collect used batteries in St. Petersburg. Each of them has a capacity of up to 600 AA batteries.
The action is expected to draw the attention of smaller and medium businesses to the problem, a spokesperson for the DaDobro corporate volunteers’ movement told Saint-Petersburg TV Channel.
The ‘Apple for battery’ action will be held for the fourth time. Last year, 2.5 tons of batteries were collected in 30 cities in Russia. This year, the organizers expect to collect more than 5 tons.
All the batteries collected will be sent for processing to the Megapoliresurs plant in Chelyabinsk.
