At present, the population of St. Petersburg is more than 7 million people. This is 32% above the figure quoted by the RF Agency for Statistics, Peterburgsky Dnevnk daily reports citing Dmitry Cherneiko, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for labour and employment.
Besides, some 440 thousand residents of Leningrad Oblast go to work to St. Petersburg every day. With these people taken into account, there are about 7.5 million people in St. Petersburg on week says.
About 4.3 million people out of the 7 million population are employable. 16% of them prefer to work part-time or telecommute.
As for labour migrants, most of them come to St. Petersburg from Uzbekistan, Belarus and Ukraine, Dmitry Cherneiko told in his presentation at the International Labor Forum in St. Petersburg.
