Russia’s largest online retailer will build a logistics center in the southern part of St. Petersburg. In August, Ozon is to put into operation a large logistics complex to handle 5.5 million parcels. The new center will give jobs to 2.5 thousand people and expedite delivery in the Northwestern Federal District, City+ reports quoting the retailer’s press office.
The construction of the first stage of the logistics center with a floor space of 29 thousand square meters is to be completed in the second quarter of 2020. Equipment assembly and IT network installation will take several months.
The entire floor space of the center when fully developed will make 70 thousand square meters. The facility will be capable of handling some 140 thousand parcels a day.
As Saint-Petersburg TV Channel reported earlier, online export from St. Petersburg has been growing by 20% annually for three years in a row. Last year, online retail surged by 24%, earnings in this segment exceeded 817 million dollars.
