The robot da Vinci makes it possible to minimize blood loss and traumatization of surrounding soft tissues.
Surgeons at St. Petersburg’s Almazov Center have successfully operated on a boy from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky deploying the robot da Vinci.
According to the Almazov Center press office, in autumn of 2019 the 9-yearboy was diagnosed Mullerian duct cyst, a congenital urinary system defect.
The decease is not a rare one, but in this case the cyst was very large, so the doctors decided to use the robot da Vinci to minimize blood loss and traumatization of the surrounding soft tissues.
The operation to remove the bladder diverticulum lasted for two hours, now the patient is recovering quickly.
It was the first robot-assisted urologic surgery on such a young patient performed in Russia.
