The Governor and the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly expressed their special gratitude to veterans.
On February 23, Russian is celebrating the Defender of the Fatherland Day, a state holiday dedicated to the Russian Army. St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov and Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Vyacheslav Makarov have addressed the residents of St. Petersburg on the occasion.
They noted that the holiday is a tribute to the honour, courage and commitment of many generations of Russian officers and soldiers. They expressed special gratitude to veterans reminding that 2020 is the Year of memory and fame in Russia.
Alexander Beglov and Vyacheslav Makarov emphasized that St. Petersburg has played an important role in the military history of Russia. The city demonstrated unparalleled heroism and endurance during the Siege of Leningrad in the Great Patriotic War.
St. Petersburg also remains an important officer training center, thus contributing to the Russian Army development.
The Governor and the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly wished all the defenders of the Fatherland health, peace and new achievements for the benefit of the country.
