Lieutenant Dmitry Zaitsev does not think he is a hero.
Last Sunday police lieutenant Dmitry Zaitsev saved a man who fell through the ice in the Griboedov Canal in St. Petersburg. He told about the incident in an interview to Saint-Petersburg TV Channel’s Morning in St. Petersburg programme.
‘We were guarding the church procession in the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood when we heard people crying for help. We reacted immediately, came running to the scene and saw a man drowning. We had to act immediately. My colleagues ran to fetch some aids and I jumped into the water,’ Zaitsev tells.
Policemen are trained to act in such situation. But for Dmitry Zaitsev it was the first time he had to use these skills. He does not think of himself as a hero. Dmitry Zaitsev plans to continue serving in the police to help his fellow citizens.
