Russian Railways intend to conclude a contract for planning and designing of the high-speed railway between St. Petersburg and Moscow in the coming weeks, Russian Railways CEO Oleg Belozyorov said at the meeting of the Federation Council.
According to Oleg Belozyorov, the planning and design stage will take 2.5 years, the project is to be completed by 2026-2027. The preliminary estimated cost of the project is 1.5 trillion rubles ($23.5 billion).
Russian Railways expect that the passenger traffic will make some 7 million people annually, the average ticket price will be 3.5 thousand rubles ($54.7), the travel time between the two cities will be 2 hours and 10 minutes.
