The only painting by Gerrit Maas in Russia is in the Pushkin Apartment Museum in St. Petersburg.
The National Pushkin Museum in St. Petersburg has discovered that the Italian landscape decorating the Pushkin Apartment Museum was painted by the Dutch artist Gerrit Maas. It is the only picture by this painter in Russia.
Until recently, specialists paid little attention to the painting and did not try to decipher the signature of the artist. Next to the signature, the date is written, 1706.
The museum received the painting in 1924, before that, it was in the mansion at 21 Moika Embankment that belonged to Prince Semyon Abamelek-Lazarev, who was one of the wealthiest people in Russia.
Experts who studied the painting recently came to a sensational conclusion: the author is the Dutch artist Gerrit Maas. This is the only picture by this painter in Russia.
