On January 7, Elizaveta Shestova, the schoolgirl who saved two children that fell through the ice on the Dudergofsky Canal in St. Petersburg, was awarded a badge of honour by the All-Russian Water Rescue Society, the regional office of the Society reports.
‘You have demonstrated an active position, well done. You did not stand back, you came to help them. Well done, really. We need more such people, because many would prefer to pass by and do nothing, while you acted as a responsible citizen. We are very proud of you’, a representative of the Society said.
The incident happened the day before. Two children fell through the ice on the Dudergofsky Canal. Elizaveta Shestova rushed to help them. The children were saved from the water before the rescue team arrived, luckily, they did not need medical assistance.
