Parents, relatives and guardians of mentally impaired children will be offered consultations and assistance.
A consulting and support center for mentally and physically impaired children and their parents has been opened in Pushkin. The project was initiated by Orphanage and Boarding School No 4 for children with mental disabilities.
The center will assist parents, relatives and custodians of families that bring up children with serious physical and mental health problems.
The mission of the center is to support families preventing special children from getting into orphanage institutions.
Alexander Rzhanenkov, Chairman of the St. Petersburg committee for social policy, explains: ‘Our task is to create the conditions for such children to be brought up in families. Their parents, their mothers need to be prepared, provided with necessary information and support. They need an opportunity to get assistance with the child, to have a break, depending on the circumstances.’
The adjacent building is to become a training home for those of the inmates of the Orphanage and Boarding School who are already 18 and over.
