This is the first time such operations for heart tumour have been made in Russia.
Cardiac surgeons of St. Petersburg’s Pediatric University have made a number of successful operations on several months old babies to remove heart tumours. According to the Pediatric University press office, four such surgeries were made during the last two months.
Two young patients are to go home soon. One of them, just a month and half old, had a tumour in the right atrium, and tumours in the brain and the liver. The only way to fight the heart tumour was to remove it. Now the baby is recovering.
The other patient, five months old, had a fast growing tumour in the right ventricle that prevented blood circulation. Now the baby is recovering quickly after the operation for tumour excision.
