From Leningrad orphanage to UFS ring

The MMA fighter Justine Kish was born in St. Petersburg, her Russian name was Svetlana Nasibulina.

Last Sunday the martial artist Justine Kish won a fight with Czech athlete Lucie Pudilova. Not everybody knows that Kish was born in St. Petersburg (then, Leningrad), on April 13, 1988. Her name was then Svetlana Nasibulina.

She spent five years in an orphanage and later described them as the hardest period in her life. Justine told in an interview that they did not have enough food and children were washed once a week in sinks.

She was adopted by a couple from Pennsylvania, Laurel and Zoltan Ladislaus Kish. A year later Justine lost her adopted father in a car accident.

Laurel Kish thought that sports would help the girl recover after the tragedy and it worked. At 12 Justine went in for karate and got a black belt in three years. Then she discovered kick-boxing and muaithai winning the Muaithai Championship in 2012.

Her first MMA fight was in 2010, and she made a debut in UFC in 2016. Justine’s fight with Lucie Pudilova was the first after a two years hiatus since January 2018 when she lost.
