A unique project for would-be ballet stars has started in St. Petersburg. The ‘Ballet of the future’ is a platform for young ballet dancers enabling them to show their skills and get a professional start.
The first casting took place in the Vaganova Ballet Academy on Saturday. The project participants will get a unique experience working with leading Russian ballet dancers and an opportunity to demonstrate their talent to directors of famous theatres.
Such renowned choreographers as Nikolay Tsiskaridze, Boris Eifman, and Denis Matvienko will assess their performance.
Denis Matvienko, the artistic director and the author of the ‘Ballet of the future’ project, tells: ‘There are only 11 directors and representatives of well-known Russian and foreign theatres in the jury, they will probably offer these young dancers contracts. In a way, it is a job center, we are trying to help people find interesting jobs and follow their dream’.
The ‘Ballet of the future’ has an international status, with more than a hundred people from 20 countries having applied to participate. Some of them will be offered contracts with Russian and European theatres depending on their performance.
