Anna Mityagina, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, has visited the Simple Things inclusive workshops, a pubic space offering creative activities for people with special needs. They work with professional instructors in the graphic, sewing, ceramic, cooking and joinery workshops.
The Simple Things have started the pilot project ‘Social occupation for grown-up invalids’ this year. It is aimed to help people with disabilities to find a job and work with an assistance of tutors.
‘People with serious health disabilities cannot find their place in the job market because they need special work conditions. But before we start creating such condition we ought to make sure that the person is ready and able to work. What the project is doing, testing such people for their ability to work, is a new and very interesting practice’, Anna Mityagina said.
At present, eleven young people are involved in the project. Tutors help those who are prepared to work to compile their portfolios.
The Simple Things inclusive workshops were established last year. Now, 30 people are learning there.
