The foundation of the Candle of Memory is to be laid next week.
A capsule containing earth from the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg where victims of the Siege of Leningrad are buried, has been handed over to the city administration to be laid into the foundation of the Candle of Memory, a monument to the victims of the Siege of Leningrad and Holocaust in Jerusalem.
The ceremony took place at the Eternal flame in the Piskarevskoye Cemetery on Wednesday. Vasily Vasetsky, a veteran of World War 2, handed the capsule over to the city officials.
The ceremony of laying the foundation for the moment will take place in Jerusalem on November 12 during the Days of St. Petersburg in Israel. The monument is to be unveiled in January next year.
