Lydia Litviak was the most efficient female fighter pilot in the world.
A movie about the famous soviet female pilot Lydia Litvyak, a Hero of the Soviet Union, is being filmed in St. Petersburg, reports City+ quoting Andrey Shaliopa, director, script writer and producer of the film.
The first trailer of the film was posted on the web this September. Most of the shooting will be done in November and December. At present, the movie set is being prepared.
The film budget is estimated to make 400 million rubles ($6.3 million), part of the sum will be crowdfunded.
Andrey Shaliopa told City+ that he learnt about Lydia Litvyak several years ago. She was the most efficient female fighter pilot in the world shooting down more enemy airplanes than any other woman pilot. ‘Contrary to any historical ethics, the national hero of such importance was surprisingly forgotten’, he said.
Andrey Shaliopa noted that much attention in the movie will be paid to historical details and their authenticity. A detailed life-size model of the Yak-1 fighter is to be made. This is the aircraft type that Lydia Litvyak’s regiment flew.
The film director added that there will be numerous air combat scenes in the movie, which will require complex high-tech engineering solutions.
