Both are a tribute to Russia’s great poet Alexander Pushkin.
The St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theater of Leonid Yakobson is planning to stage two new ballets this season. One of them is “The Queen of Spades” dedicated to Alexander Pushkin, the author of the original story.
The ballet was created exclusively for the Leonid Yakobson Ballet Theatre. Iñaki Urlezaga, an Argentinian choreographer, is staging the performance. The first night is scheduled on December 5 at the Bolshoy Drama Theatre.
The other new performance will be “Onegin”, based on Alexander Pushkin’s novel in verses. The first night will take place in July at the closure of the theatrical season.
According to Andrian Fadeev, artistic director of the theatre, the theatre will also take part in the Theatre Olympics performing in Vladivostok and Vladikavkaz and in the Golden Mask international festival in Israel.
