It will take only two hours to travel from St. Petersburg to Moscow.
A super high-speed railway between St. Petersburg and Moscow could be put into operation in 2026, reports TASS quoting Dmitry Katsyn, director of Russian Railways’ center for high-speed transport development.
At present, a combined high-speed railway project to connect St. Petersburg with Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod is under consideration. The project comprises two routes, between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod and between St. Petersburg and Moscow.
The high-speed rail connection will make it possible to travel from St. Petersburg to Moscow in just two hours. Such a speed will allow of tripling passenger traffic up to 33 million people a year.
By preliminary estimation, the project may cost 1.5 trillion rubles ($23.3 billion).
