Empress Maria Feodorovna was the first to start collecting antique household objects.
Ritual statuettes, amphora handles and cameo rings from Ancient Greece that constituted Empress Maria Feodorovna’s collection of antiques will be exhibited in the Pavlovsk Palace.
The exhibits come from the Pavlovsk Museum, there will be also ceramic vases from the Hermitage and two paintings form the Russian Museum.
The Empress was actually the first art collector in Russia to recognize the value of simple objects of the ancient epoch and even their fragments. Her collection was the first to contain not only marble statues and busts but also antique household objects.
There were also arrowheads and spearheads, dice and brooches in her collection.
The exhibition will be open till April 1.
