The concept is a reminiscence of Peter the First’s Pharmacy Garden.
A new public space has been opened on the Karpovka river embankment in St. Petersburg near the First Pavlov State Medical University.
The project was discussed with local residents, there were online polls and offline conferences and meetings with designers held to decide what the first stage of the space should look like.
Nikolay Bondarenko, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, notes that the design of the walking area was inspired by the theme of water and waves, which is logical as the Karpovka River is nearby.
Historically, when St. Petersburg was just founded, Peter the First’s Pharmacy Garden was located here, and the idea was used in the new space concept, with herbs and plants reminding of the history of the place, while fruit trees will add the place white, pink and red colours when in bloom.
At the next stage of the space development, a wooden bridge is to be built across the Karpovka and a large pedestrian area is to be opened, the two banks of the river will be designed symmetrically.
