Some three thousand delegates are to participate in the event.
The 21st Mendeleev Congress will be held in St. Petersburg on September 9, 2019. The event will be attended by some 3 thousand people, Noble laureates in chemistry among them.
According to Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of science and higher education of the Russian Federation, half of the delegates are under 35. Also, the world’s leading scientists are expected to take part in the Congress.
The Mendeleev Congress is held in Russia once in four years. This is a forum that sets the major development trends for the Russian chemical science and industry.
Vladimir Kirillov, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, compared the Mendeleev Congress with the Olympic Games, an event of utmost importance for both the city and the world. He added that the city is well-prepared for the high-level event.
This year, the Mendeleev Congress will be a key event of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. Its programme includes conferences, symposiums for English speaking delegates, and round tables.
During the Congress, it is planned to discuss naming the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements after its author, the great Russian chemist Dmitry Mendeleev. In Russia, it is already known as the Mendeleev Table, however, this is not the name officially used worldwide.
