A test Latochka train will go to Imatra.
This Saturday, a test Lastochka train will run from St. Petersburg to Imatra. Until now, railway connection between Russia and Finland was routed via the Vanikkala station in Lappeenranta only.
A pilot group consisting of Russian and Finnish specialists is to work out a road map for developing the route which has never been used for passenger transportation before.
The current traffic via the road border crossing points between Russia and Finland is much above their capacity. The launch of a new rail connection is expected to take some of the traffic off the road.
Probably, rail stations and customs checkpoints will need to be renovated for the convenience of passengers.
