If there is enough money, construction could start in 2020.
The Tsarskoe Selo State Museum in Pushkin plans to rebuild the Chinese Opera Theatre of Catherine the Great that was destroyed during World War 2. This year the design plan is to be completed, TASS quotes Olga Taratynova, director of the museum, as saying.
According to her, if there is sufficient financing, the restoration process could start next year. “We will request the Ministry of Culture to help us, the museum will not be able to cope on its own”, Olga Taratynova added.
The Chinese Opera Theatre in the Alexander Park of Tsarskoe Selo was constructed in 1779, the same year the first performance was staged there. It was also used as a theatre during the reign of Nicholas I and Nicholas II.
The building was destroyed in September of 1941 when it burnt down after shell bombing.
