The first concert of the season will be played on the birthday of Dmitry Shostakovich, whose name the Philharmonia bears.
The St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia is opening its new season on September 25, the day when Dmitry Shostakovich, the composer whose name the Philharmonia bears, was born.
Shostakovich’s Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” will be performed by the Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Temirkanov.
The piano solo will be performed by Denis Matsuev.
