A new storage center for the Kunstkammer museum is to be built in St. Petersburg. Its design will resemble the architectural style of the Kunstkammer building.
This summer, a decree to allocate almost 4.5 billion rubles ($70 million) of federal money to finance the project of the multifunctional storage and scientific center for the Kunstkammer was signed.
The 25 thousand square meters storage center is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2023.
The Kunstkammer is one of the largest and oldest ethnographic museums in the world and the oldest museum in Russia. It dates back to the times of Peter the Great who founded Russia’s first public museum in 1714.
Today, the Kunstkammer’s collection consists of more than 1.2 million items.
