Guests can learn how to make things in old techniques.
This Friday the Blagodar festival of old crafts is starting in St. Petersburg. Guests of the festival are invited to try and make clay pots or lapti lime bark footwear in traditional techniques themselves. Also, blacksmiths will give master classes.
In the framework of the festival its participants will also discuss how to keep and develop old crafts and traditions. As a result, a step-by-step program aimed to support traditional craftsmen is to be proposed.
According to Alexander Rzhanenkov, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Social Policy, the traditional crafts and folk arts are an important legacy and a source of creativity to be proud of.
He said the city government will continue supporting the festival to keep the old traditions for future generations.
