Former Mitrofanievskoe Cemetery: a bird’s eye view

A memorial eco-park is to be built there.

A memorial eco-park is to be developed on the territory of the former Mitrofanievskoe Cemetery in St. Petersburg. Designing is to start in 2020.

It is planned to restore the remaining monuments and tombstones and rebuild the Church of St. Mitrofan, bishop of Voronezh. Besides, dozens of pines and oak trees are to be planted on the territory.

Mitrofanievskoe Cemetery is one of the largest graveyards in St. Petersburg. It was laid out in 1831, in the middle of the 20th century it was closed and neglected.

About 400 thousand of city residents, including some prominent personalities are buried there.
