The 29th international Message to Man film festival has started in St. Petersburg. The red carpet ceremony took place in the Palace Square.
This year German actor Udo Kier is the headliner of the event. He came to present The Painted Bird, a film about the life of a boy during World War 2.
The actor says, it is a very strong film, almost a documentary. It is black and white and touches upon the problems that are really important, especially for the new generations.
Other guests include the Japanese film director Kazuo Hara, the Finnish film director Piryo Honkasalo, winner of the “Golden bear” at the Berlinale Izabela Plucinska, and Amediateka President Linda Jensen.
During the first festival day, Asif Kapadia’s documentary Diego Maradona was shown.
The festival is to close on September 21.
