Experts believe the elections were honest and competitive.
St. Petersburg’s City Election Commission has certified the Gubernatorial elections results. The decision was announced at the meeting of the election commission on Wednesday. Over 64% of those who came to vote cast their ballots for Alexander Beglov.
Viktor Minenko, Chairman of the St. Petersburg City Election Commission, announced that the Commission has resolved to certify the final results of the elections on September 8 as valid and pronounce Alexander Beglov elected Governor of St. Petersburg.
According to Alexander Brod, member of the Presidential Council for civil society and human rights, both Russian and foreign experts believe the Gubernatorial elections were honest and competitive.
He also appreciated the good technical support of the election process in St. Petersburg with over 1.8 thousand polling stations equipped with cameras and 478 stations with automatic ballot processing complexes.
On September 8, St. Petersburg residents also voted for candidates to municipal councils. The results of these elections are to be announced no later than September 18.
