As per tradition, news service of “Sankt-Peterburg” TV station recalls the past year. And it was rich with events. Not only foreign politics shaped the landscape of news coverage in 2015. Life in the Northern Capital was bustling. Tragic and joyous, political and economic – here are 2015’s most important events as seen by the channel’s reporters.
Alexander Odintsov, reporter: “At the very dusk of 2015, exhumation of Alexander the III commenced at Petropavlovskaya Fortress. Extracting the remains of the last emperor’s father is necessary to continue the investigation. DNA samples will once and for all verify the authenticity of remains of the Tsar’s family, found close to Ekaterinburg in 2007”
The exhumation operation was extremely accurate. Layer by layer, specialists – under supervision of clerics and investigators – were getting closer to the grave of the peacemaking Tsar.
The tomb itself is located several meters underground in a brass sarcophagus. During the operation, experts also managed to debunk one of the most circulated rumors – that the emperor’s resting place had been tampered with. There were no signs of intrusion revealed under ground.
Lab research is expected to conclude in 2016. It is quite possible that the longest criminal investigation in Russian history will finally be solved.
