As per tradition, news service of “Sankt-Peterburg” TV station recalls the past year. And it was rich with events. Not only foreign politics shaped the landscape of news coverage in 2015. Life in the Northern Capital was bustling. Tragic and joyous, political and economic – here are 2015’s most important events as seen by the channel’s reporters.
Tatyana Bazhenova, reporter: “This arena had been deprived of loud applause and laughter for 18 months. This is how long the renovation works at Fontanka circus had lasted. In December, it was opened within the Cultural Forum’s activities”
The tie of Rosgostsirk’s director became the red band, official speeches were interrupted by a female elephant allowed into the arena. The show was performed by the Royal Circus of Giya Eradze. Spectators were treated to a lot of things on that night – Pegasus, elephants, pigeons, gymnasts and acrobats. The real treat was the performance by Oleg Popov – the sunny clown had not been in Russia for quarter of a century.
Spectators will feel a lot more comfortable now. The number of seats has been diminished, ventilation was installed to fight off bad odor. The Tsar lounge is now available for guests, not for the orchestra as before. The foyer is decorated with restored ceiling ornaments. The arena itself is covered by a double dome, the new construction protects the historic roof from poor weather.
The circus went back to the original name – after its father – the Circus of Chisinelli. Getting to see a show is not easy, by the way – all January shows were sold out by mid- January”
