Gymnasts from Lugansk will train with the Russian national team

Today, gymnasts from the Lugansk People’s Republic witnessed the training of the Russian national artistic gymnastics team. 26 junior sportswomen have come to St. Petersburg for a few days.

The Christmas trip to the Northern Capital was a gift from the city’s government and businessmen. The young sportswomen visited landmarks and New Year shows. But they were particularly anticipating a visit to the “Zhemchuzhina” sports center, where their idols train

Alexandra Kolesnikova, Elizaveta Lavrik, gymnasts from the Lugansk People’s Republic: “You have a very beautiful city here, we liked it very much. We had been waiting anxiously for this day when we could come and meet the girls. We like the sport and we like to watch the girls train. A lot of complex moves, interesting compositions, interesting work with the gear. We will accumulate that experience and try what they’ve shown to us. And train together with them”

The dream of a joint training will be fulfilled tonight. The girls from Lugansk will take to the carpet with Russia’s best sportswomen.

The guests have already received new kneepads, shoes and socks as a gift

Yuriy Avdeev, member of St. Petersburg’s government, chairman of sports committee: “Our trainers have been very kind and say that they are ready to take them here for training - even including them on the national team next term, so they could train and perform. This kind of attention is very important to them today – while they receive nothing like that back home. It’s a dire situation, they called home today and were told that bombs are going off again”

The gymnasts will stay in St. Petersburg until January 8th. Little guests are in for another gift during this festive period – a unique water show at the “Nevskaya Volna” center with masters of synchronized swimming and fly-board.
