The passenger flow at the Russian-Finnish border increase by 20% annually. That’s why our neighbors are initiating construction of a new highway, which would link St. Petersburg and Helsinki.
We would like to remind, that in order to improve transportation between the two countries, the high-speed train “Allegro” was launched in 2010. It can carry up to 350 passengers and makes 4 round trips each day. As for traffic flow, last year it hit a record high – more than 12 million cars. And that’s with an imperfect border infrastructure. The issue of traffic jams at the interstate border may be solved by implementing visa-free regime for short travels between Russia and the EU.
